Biography

ennifer McDermott is the green energy reporter for The Associated Press, covering spot news, features, profiles and analysis on the latest innovations in addressing climate change. She joined the AP Climate & Environment team in February 2023. Previously, she was the Rhode Island reporter for the AP, covering climate change and energy issues nationally, as well as New England news. She is based in Providence, Rhode Island. McDermott has also worked for The Day newspaper and The Hartford Courant. She earned a M.A. and M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
