Katie Brown is a freelance science journalist covering climate, equity and sustainability. Her work has appeared in High Country News, Mongabay, Science News and The San Jose Mercury News. For the last year, Katie covered statewide climate and energy issues for The Maine Monitor while serving as a Report for America corps member. She earned her master’ in 2019 through the UC Santa Cruz Science Communication Program while working as a local newspaper reporter and community radio producer. Her investigative environmental reporting has taken her on overnight commercial fishing expeditions, impromptu tractor rides, and hikes through sacred mountains.
